New Skill

Turns out Ellen Hauplti is a great teacher! A small select subgroup of the loosely coordinated Craft Club went to Ellen's studio in Berkeley and created all day long,

First we created stabilized patches from remnants of hand woven cloth and regular machine made store bought stuff. Two layers were sandwiched around a single layer of flannel and stitched together securely. Iron, sew, iron, did I mention Iron again?

Then we trimmed the patches and sewed them together, butting the edges and zigzagging away, changing bobbins very often. Once panels are created, I will need to trim the panels to match a vest pattern and sew that up. We all wanted a second session to have even more fun.

While I was not initially sure that the workshop would fly, maybe too Bohemian for my restrained taste and maybe too technical to learn. But these concerns melted away quickly. On to proficiency, I'm inspired.
